We’ve fought for 18 years for a seat at the table, and child care providers have been making proposals at the negotiations table for six months. Yet the state has offered us no financial proposals to help us keep our doors open or long-term solutions despite a record budget surplus! They have yet to address one of our most urgent issues: the low pay plaguing the child care industry.
Hundreds of providers attended our negotiations meeting on Thursday to show our strength, and it’s clear the state needs to hear from more providers and supporters to make them take action!
We’ve seen before that when we come together in big numbers, we get results!
Call Governor Newsom between 9 am and 5 pm:
1-844-300-3801
Tell him to make child care a priority and come to the negotiations table over rate increases!
- Here is a sample script you can use:
-
- “Hi, Governor Newsom. My name is _______ and I live in _____ County.
- “Family child care providers and the working families they serve need you to prioritize rate increases for providers struggling to keep their lights on and who continue to close, forced to survive on 2016 rates.
- Like too many workers of color and female workers, family child care providers are not receiving the pay they need to support their own families and keep their doors open.
- “By caring for the children of their fellow front-line workers, family child care providers are the ones who kept California’s economy running throughout the pandemic, and who remain essential if we want our state to fully recover.
- “I’m urging you to come to the negotiations table over rate increases and seriously fund investments for 0-3-year-olds, for families who work irregular hours, and for all child care providers.
- “Child care providers need your help NOW! Without immediate financial assistance, they will continue to close, slowing the reopening of our economy and harming working families, particularly women and people of color.
- “Be great and increase our rates!”
- “Hi, Governor Newsom. My name is _______ and I live in _____ County.

We need to put pressure on state leaders!! After you make your call, make sure that five providers, parents, and friends also call Governor Newsom. It will take all of us to make sure our cause is heard.
