CCPU members in fire-affected areas have been forced to close temporarily or relocate, while others have lost everything, including their homes that also served as their workplaces. Our union has demanded to bargain, as our existing contract supports providers during crises like the one we are facing. We have submitted a proposal to the State aimed at ensuring providers recover, rebuild, and achieve stability so they can continue serving families. This proposal includes ongoing payments to affected providers and addresses various extraordinary disaster-related expenses, such as deep cleaning, managing smoke and ash, conducting repairs, replacing equipment and materials, securing new facilities, and providing technical support and mental health resources for recovery.
We are also calling for investments in climate disaster resilience to better equip providers for future emergencies. This support is essential for us to maintain our ability to care for families and children throughout Los Angeles and across the state.
