No matter race, zip code, or religion, all children deserve to have a great start in life and to reach their full potential. Families across California are facing a crisis in child care. Over one million children can’t access early education. Working parents can’t afford quality care. And child care teachers are struggling to provide basic necessities for their own families.
That is why family child care providers are joining together for the right to form a union. With a strong union and a seat at the table, providers have the power to raise rates, win benefits, improve training, expand access and affordability and strengthen our communities.
The good news is that California – the wealthiest state in the nation and the 5th largest economy in the world – can afford it. Our next generation’s ability to move our nation forward requires California to commit to invest in an educational system that prioritizes early care and education and equally values the work of those who make it possible.
As the richest state, California can afford to do better.
